Retrograde Mercury

It is difficult for me to dismiss the entry of Mercury into its retrograde corse, TODAY—November 6—NATIONAL ELECTION DAY, as coincidence.
Mercury enters "retrograde course" (moves backwards through the Zodiac in its geocentric position - as seen from the earth) only three times a year for about three weeks each time, (i.e. now through November 26), and is interpreted as a particularly strong cosmic influence.

When Mercury is in retrograde...
Mental pursuits and connections break down.
It is a period is best used as a time for inner reflection.
It is not a good time for making new decisions or new business plans, but it is ideal for reflecting on your current situation.
It is best to quietly observe your inner process during Mercury retrograde, and to carry forward with your preexisting plans.

In the modern day western tradition, we connect Mercury with its Roman God namesake . The God Mercury (akin to The Egyptian God, Anubis) was a messenger between this realm and realms beyond. Mercury was also an overseer of trade, profit and commerce. The astrological symbol for the planet Mercury is taken from this God's wand or caduceus, which is typically depicted as a short herald's staff entwined by two serpentine creatures, and which in later antiquity became the astrological symbol for commerce.

Mercury represents the mind and intellect, and rules Gemini, (represents duality), and also Virgo (represents analysis & attention to detail). It has it's exaltation in Aquarius. Mercury is an airy planet, associated with all forms of communication and the in-flow and out-flow of intelligence and communication. Its position indicates how your mental function will be expressed, as well as reveals which techniques and skills are available to you.

Take advantage of this current 21-35 day period to ask yourself:
Where am I heading in my life at this particular juncture?

Then try to move forward with new directions...
ONLY AFTER Mercury has gone direct (Nov 27) and perhaps even a fortnight beyond, when Mercury has left its retrograde shadow (Dec 11). Every Mercury retrograde period requires a few weeks after its direct station to emerge out of this shadow and regain the original degree where it turned retrograde.
